Frequently Asked Questions

Both. Psychotherapy Sessions are available in person in Denver or remotely.

However Tai Yi treatments are only in-person.

If you’re not local to Denver, you can still work with Nick through online psychotherapy sessions, and consider periodic in-person visits if you’d like to incorporate Tai Yi into your work together.

Your first step is a free consultation, which also serves as your intake. On this call, Nick will answer any questions you have, and take time to understand what’s bringing you in and what you’re hoping to get out of the work together.

From there, sessions are built around you — not a fixed script. Depending on what you’re working through that week, Nick draws from a few different tools:

  • Talk therapy — a space to process what’s going on, understand your patterns, and work through what’s weighing on you
  • Internal Family Systems (parts work) — exploring the different “parts” of yourself that may be in conflict, such as the part that wants to move on and the part still holding on
  •
  • Life Energy Flow Tai Yi — body-based energy work that helps release what’s held beneath words, often used when talking alone isn’t reaching something
  • Craniosacral work — gentle, hands-on work supporting the nervous system directly

You don’t need to know in advance which of these you need. Nick will guide the session toward whatever feels most useful in the moment — some sessions are mostly talk, others may include Tai Yi or craniosacral work, and many blend both.

Most talk therapy focuses on the mind — your thoughts, patterns, and history. Nick’s approach works with the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.

  • Mind — traditional psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (parts work) help you understand your patterns, beliefs, and inner conflicts
  • Body — Life Energy Flow Tai Yi and craniosacral work address what’s held in the nervous system and body, beneath words and conscious thought
  • Spirit — sessions leave room for meaning, purpose, and intuition, not just symptom relief

The idea is that lasting change doesn’t come from insight alone. Many people already understand why they feel the way they do — what’s often missing is a way to help the body and nervous system actually let go of what they’re holding onto. Combining talk-based work with body-based and energetic approaches gives your whole system a chance to shift, not just your thinking.

What is Tai Yi energy work?

Life Energy Flow Tai Yi is a body-based energy healing modality with roots in ancient Chinese healing traditions, and is speculated to be over 7,000 years old. It works similarly to acupuncture; both work with the body’s energy lines (what acupuncturists call meridians) to shift the flow of energy, or “chi.” Rather than using needles, Tai Yi is done entirely hands-on, using pressure and energy work directly on the body’s energy centers and meridians to help release blockages and restore balance physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Clients often describe the effects as different from talk therapy alone: rather than working through an issue by discussing it, Tai Yi works with it directly in the body and nervous system. Effects can be felt in the moment and sometimes continue to unfold for days or weeks afterward.

This work is best suited for people who are open to body-based, spiritual, and energetic approaches, but who still want the process to feel grounded, thoughtful, and practical not vague or purely mystical.

Nick is one of a small number of practitioners trained in this specific method worldwide, and often integrates it directly into sessions alongside talk therapy and IFS work.

What is craniosacral work?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on technique that works with the craniosacral system, the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Light touch is used to help release tension patterns held in the body and support the nervous system.

Nick typically uses craniosacral work in short segments, around 15 minutes, alongside talk therapy and Tai Yi within a session. He’s found it especially effective for:

  • Relaxing the nervous system
  • Releasing stress and anxiety
  • Deepening the emotional experience of the session

In practice, craniosacral work often helps clients settle into their body and become present enough to do the deeper emotional work of the session, it’s less something you do and more something that helps you arrive.

The consultation is set up so you and Nick can get to know each other and see if it’s a good fit — for both of you. If it turns out he’s not the right fit for what you need, he’ll help point you toward someone more appropriate.

Here’s what the call typically includes:

  • The basics — some background info, how you found Nick, and confirmation that everything discussed is confidential
  • A real session, not just a chat — rather than only talking about therapy, you’ll get an actual taste of it. Nick will take time to understand what’s going on for you and do real talk therapy in that first call, so you leave the consultation having gotten something out of it, not just information
  • Logistics — pricing, session frequency, and any other practical questions answered directly
  • A game plan — Nick will share his initial sense of where to focus, what approach makes sense (talk therapy, IFS, Tai Yi, or a mix), and if Tai Yi is a fit, what kind of treatment might help given the wide range available

By the end, you’ll have a clear next step, and if you’d like to continue, your first regular session gets scheduled.
